Partly to try to prevent a bit of thread drift on the post about polishing, what do posters understand by the term "Topsides"?
I always thought it refered to the side of the hull from waterline to gunwale, but I note that the CG 66 form appears to give it an entirely different meaning. Maybe the meaning has evolved. What do you think? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The part between the waterline and the main deck would be the shipside.

Above the main deck are the topsides.

Basically, the shipside refers to the hull proper while the term 'topsides' refers to what is above. This is not very relevant to 'normal' yachts but more to the larger vessels like cruise liners, the ones that appear like floating apartment blocks.

The guys on Portomaso Marina quote for polishing shipsides as the bit between the water and the toerail, and topside is the decks etc. above that.
