My brother in law is just about to take delivery of hull number 6 a Nordhavn 51 from turkey. He will use the boat for a year in the Med before shipping to Thailand. He has been recommended Topsail but I have mentioned this to a few boaty friends and they said GJW or Haven Knox Johnson. Any views please?

Whatever insurance provider is chosen may well depend on exclusions and conditions. An insurance policy that suits any one group of people may not suit others. So it is impossible to make a recommendation other than to read the policy wording including exclusions and conditions before buying.

I moved from Topsail to GJW this year due to GJW being cheaper and having fewer exclusions.
previously to being taken over by topsail i was with Y yacht ins under their "all risk" wording, i always found their comms first class especially wheny renewal came up during my hospital stay claire froggatt was very helpful, once i getter more mobile i will be contacting them for another policy👌

I'd had excellent service from Topsail over the years but was disappointed that they'd added at least one exclusion to the policy (no single handed operating for boats over 10m) without mentioning it or adding it to the policy summary.

That is rather out of the ordinary for UK based insurers. Suggest here might be a good starting point superyacht.pantaenius.com They also have an office in the UK in Plymouth
That’s what I was thinking. Also Turkey, Med then Thailand base is hardly a common geographic coverage for most domestic UK insurance companies / policies. And what country of registration?

I am not sure the Med bit and then Thailand will be on the same policy.

While most of the UK brokers will insure UK residents for boats in the Med a boat of that size and value would be at the edge of their market, which is why I suggested an international specialist insurer

I can’t comment on Topsail, but have used HKJ previously, and was happy with them. The N51 is an interesting boat. Have you seen the exploits of Mark and Fiona on hull#1? Awanui NZ channel on You Tube. They are on their way to New Zealand in it over 5 years. They are 18 months into the trip, with the boat currently in the Nederlands, having cruised the Mediterranean, Iberian Peninsula, Northern France, Guernsey and the English south coast. Worth a view?

Thanks everybody.

yes, I have watched from episode 1 and taken note of all the issues. I am also in contact with hull no 5. My friends at M&G Guernsey made him a special took to remove the starboard impeller.
