Hi all, was hoping for some help. I have just put the last coat of Toplac on my newly built wheelhouse. It looks fab, but there are several small runs in the paint & also some trapped dust particles which can be seen on the surface. Does anyone know if this paint can be successfully cut back & buffed to a gloss in order to remove the proplem areas without a full on re-paint?

Many thanks

Brian

Never had much luck polishing back. However it responds well to touching up. Trying rubbing back defects in an inconspicuous place and blending in a thinned coat. I do this with nicks and scrapes on my dark blue hull as well as the white stripe. Can't see until really close up.

A cabinet scraper will be more efficient at removing runs and usually leaves a smoother surface than abrasives. Ditto the dust particles, flies. mosquitoes, etc which are always attracted to fresh varnish. You'd need to leave the varnish for a while to harden off before attacking it with anything, or you'll make it worse.
Peter.

Toplac cuts back fine. I have used it on my N12 to patch up repairs and fairing foils. My painting skills have never been that great so to get the mirror finish that the foils need the paint got a 1500 wet and dry followed by cutting paste. Halfords stuff was to hand so that is what was used. With a bit of elbow grease I could see my face in the foils. Having said that it is probably worth checking on a test piece first my N12 is no show winner so I can afford to take a gamble.

Thanks Giles1, much appreciated. I gingerly removed the new contraption from my garage yesterday- it actually looked quite smart in daylight!!! Pleasantly suprised. How long did you have to wait until the paint was hard enough to 'cut back'?
