I'm painting topcoats on some fibreglass boats next week.
Did a trial using a brush on an unloved boat with a 100% coat.
It's quite heavy and as it dried it started to sag in areas.
Presuming I should add some thinner.
I have read use 10% thinner?
Is there a particular type of thinner I can pick up from the local hardware store rather than heading back over to the chandlers?

When I am doing the paint job 'for real' there is a lot of area to cover so will try the roll and tip method.
I assume a 10% thinner would also be required here?

Thinners #1 mentioned in the data sheet is the same as "white spirit"

BUT white spirit is a bit of a variable feast. Some folks have reported bad results with white spirit from the usual DIY sources. Try it but be prepared to get the International product from the chandler.

I found I needed to thin it more than International recommend.
To be honest I would avoid using Toplac again if at all possible. I've just painted a boat using 2-pack 'Lustre' from SML. Admittedly it was indoors under controlled conditions, but I found the paint much easier to work with and it has given a much harder finish.

I have also found SML paint better than Intl.

I've used Toplac extensively and thinned it with B&Q Diall brand white spirit. Nothing like as much as 10%. Maybe a capfull in 500ml of paint.

You need a good brush. Hamilton perfection plus 2.5" synthetic bristle is my weapon of choice.

I thought you were going to say Diall Clean Sprit ...... That would be a disaster
