Tonight's TV: Top Gear - Rubbish, totally lost the plot - more like "Chuckle Brothers".
Three Men Etc. Not bad, a bit too contrived, but it is dumbed down for the majority of the BBC's licence fee payers.
Personal opinion of course.

Totally agree. TG was a waste of time. Three men was at least mostly watchable.

Totally disagree. TG was predictable but fun.

Three men is badly contrived and only one of the three (Dara) is interesting or funny.

I lost interest in TG once they started trashing the cars. Our license fees were surely not wisely spent on this . £21k on the cars. Guessing another £150 - 200k on the rest. Just to see the same **** in a different location!

As much as I love it I think that Top Gear has probably run its course, I enjoy watching it but it doesn't bother me if I miss one, and it used to drive me mad if I did!

it is now very scripted and it always was, the problem is that they are now using the same script over and over again.


Clarkson (the brains behind it he took the original top gear and changed it) he needs to do it again !!

If Top Gear got back to its core, i.e. reporting/reviewing and testing cars it could redeem itself IMO. There is enough slap-stick childish so called humour available on other channels for those who want it without the Clarkson team acting like clowns and embarrassing us around the world.

'Three Men', although I enjoyed it, it was another missed opportunity to make more of the programme about boats and sailing. I found myself just waiting through the nonsense bits until they got back on board. There are few enough programmes about sailing that you would think it would justify a dedicated one. How many darned shows do we need about cooking for instance!

Personal opinion of course, but I think the nauseating Jeremy Clarkson (like Jonathon Ross) is way past his sell by date, and Griff Rhys Jones, who used to be enjoyable, has developed into a parody of himself - can't cope with any of them.
Ratings probably prove me wrong however.
And don't get me started on ANY of the Soaps, Strictly Come Dancing, Big Brother, Shipwrecked, X-Factor, Britain's Got Talent etc., etc. !!

I was pleased to see that Great Expectations got over 6 million viewers vs. Three Men's 2 million - you'll gather that I watched the former. I watched the first episode of the latter last year [?] but gave up as it was all tedious bickering and chat.

Three men in a boat, nice to see our licence fees spent on three, past their sell by date, “personalities” who think they are funny, sent to the USA, at our expense, undoubtedly first class, to produce at most 15 mins of interesting boaty footage.

I am an avid Top Gear fan and I have to agree with those who thought last night's programme was ****. In my view it was total **** (assuming **** can be measured on a scale).

Previous adventures, across desert and through jungle etc were real challenges whereas last night's programme was just plain stupid, no real challenge and no real plot, I actually turned it off before the end it was such drivel.

Three men is a bit contrived but at least it is relatively entertaining - easy on the brain and with some interesting history included

I was looking forward to both programs but I though they were both poor, buts of TG were bearable but the boat thing was terrible from start to finish, it wasnt funny and it wasnt interesting.

Top Gear jumped the shark a couple of years ago. I disagree with cdogg that it should return to purely-factual reviews of cars - it's when it reinvented itself from that to the current "car-related light entertainment" that it became the compulsive viewing it was for a while - but the last couple of series have been far too obviously scripted, contrived, and overdone.

I turned last night's off after ten minutes, as correcting the pile of charts on my table held more appeal.

Oh, I dunno, it made me smile in a few places. But I have to admit I ffwded through stuff like the dinner party...

Agree with KieranW as well : the "normal" TG format is very formulaic and a bit of innovation wouldn't go amiss. How about a classic car maintenance slot or an occasional bike in there ?
