I happened to be installing my new omni-directional antennae whist it was on and was testing etc. Cor Blimey! what a boring programme, how did you manage to stay awake whilst they were filming it? and Jeremy Clarkson as an arbiter of cool? in the immortal words of Lunchtime O' Booze "Shurely Shome Mishtake"

out-anoraked halcyon, plus...

i thought i was ok there but was the coupe only made in germany? so, otherwise...?

The "atom" sort-of car thing with no bodywork is also cool.

Original late 70's audi 100's are cool but only the one from the advert with actual parachute braking assistance.

Unfortunately, no Aston Martins are cool, ever, except if converted into pickup trucks. The same rule applies to Porsche.

Ford GT40 is cool, as are Gulf-painted replicas provide they make reasonable racket.

Lamborghini espadas are one of very few cars that are cool if they are clean, but otherwise not cool.

The 3-seater matra-simca Bagheera is cool.

No VW beetle is cool, nor camper van EXCEPT the latest modern-style phillipe starck-ified thing that may not even be on sale or even in production, dunno.

Re: out-anoraked halcyon, plus...

Sorry just had odd mates.
One was in love with Granada coupes, one worked on the Le Man GT40's, and his claim to fame was doing the old M1 flat out in full race spec GT40, another had one ex Le Man GT40's and never drove it, he also had a Muria, left it outside his flat for a year with flat tyres and the local kids playing on it. The firm that made Sealine tanks had what was claimed to be the tooling for the GT40, chassis and body, used to build to order

Just think, one day Sealine's may be cool.

Re: phew, got them in then

these sound very cool mates indeed!

Sealines will be cool dependednt on location. At sea or on rivers: never. But if put afloat on minor lakeland lakes (rydal, grasmere for example) or ESPECIALLY tarn Hows, very cool imho. I certainly saw no restrictions.

Re: cool cars

Fiat 500 must be Abarth version

I also hear that 80's motors are back in fashion so here's some suggestions.....

Renault 5 Turbo II
Lancia Stratos
Ferrari Daytona Spyder
Lancia Monte Carlo
Lotus Esprit Turbo
Alfa GTV

OK so most of them were dogs or being Italian fell apart.

Then of course.....
Mini Cooper S (old style a la Italian job)

Re: cool cars

ok, yes to the gtv but only the early ones with the weirsd cigarette lighter where you put the ciggie in the hole and then pick it out and it's lit. But the rest never really worked, so not really cars.

Fact is, most of these cardboard wrecks were trendy, never cool. Not compared with a Daimler Conquest (cos it cost £1066)- the hardest-looking production car of all time imho, and the only car to ever appear as though it is frowning at you from the back.

Re: trendy v cool

clarkson confuses these. The bond bug was fabulously trendy. You'd look at one. But would you drive it? Every day? Or would you feel a bit of a nerk. I think you'd feel a bit of a nerk, so it cannot be cool.

I think petem's small son will understand exactly what i mean. Cue rolling eyes and sighing as ice cream is offered instead of dangerous toy.
