I don't know if anyone else has had the same idea, but I like to leave a selection of tools onboard at all times and in the Spring when you come to open them up they can be damp and starting to rust up.
Stainless steel seems too expensive and dosn't look right on a classic boat so I've built up a nice set of bronze tools. They are ex-gas board ( they use bronze for its non-sparking properties) they are quality tools and look brilliant. They are not expensive ( I bought mine from ebay over several auctions) . Now I've got the ones I want I thought I'd share the idea. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
The only snag is they look so good polished up I worry abit about scratching them.

Why not just stick to the rusty old iron stuff smeared with oil or grease & thrown in a plastic tub in the bilges. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Works for me. I've even got a steel B&Q hammer I found in the mud on a drying mooring one day when the tide went out. Wire brushed the loose flakes off it & never looked back since! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I used to have a toolkit like that because I found you never drop your old tools over the side......its always the new ones that go for a swim.

Have you noticed that, just before they 'go over the side', they pause for a moment and wave goodbye but if you try and make a grab for them, the disappear very quickly indeed. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Crumbs, I thought that only happened to me!!!
I've had sockets rolling down to the scuppers and as I race after them they accelerate as I get close to them. They make a nice "plop" as they just get away.
I was thinking of antifouling my favorite tools!!

Hi.
I have had a look on ebay and found very little and they where in the USA.
So come on fess up what do we search under. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Cheers David.

Well, its just pot luck when they come up for sale. I used to check ebay every now and then and see if there were any there. Its a bit like going to a boot fair for a specific thing they only pop up when you are looking for something else. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Wow -bronze tools... how the other half live! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif With me its just a toss up whether they get destroyed by rust BEFORE I drop em overboard.

If you go into a gun shop they'll sell you a little sachet which leaks volatile oils into the atmosphere once opened. Stick it in your toolbag and hey presto, no rust.
