Having now completed the 'descale', burnish and prime with an excellent Jotun epoxy tie-coat, I'm about ready to spoil the whole job by trowelling on some compatible antifoul paint form the same stable. I'm advised by those with TBT ingrained under their fingernails that I'll get two coats out of a 5L can, with some left over. That should suffice for an extended season, I'm told. The point is, I have twice that volume.

Now, what's the benefit - if any - of slathering it all on? Can I expect TWO or more years' benefit, with the occasional power wash or handscrub...? What if I put on TRIPLE the original recommendation? How much is too much?

Or should I not bother at all, and just dry out every so often, scrub down the very attractive silver-grey that's there now, and admire.....?

Not sure how big your boat is.
In March last year I did 2 good coats on my boat - 28ft LWL with swing centreplate and small bilge keels - out of 5L of Jotun SeaQueen with a bit left.
In April this year I lifted out and a gentle wipe with a sponge brought off all the slime and lots of blue colour but plenty of coat left on the boat.
Based on previous use I expect it to last another year and then a scrub (with abrasive mesh on a dry-lining sanding pole) will bring off most of the residue ready to recoat.
Personally i wouldn't put on more than 2 coats. If you have 2x5L cans I would keep one to use in 2 years time (if your fouling rate is similar to where I am).
Same advice as for applying HB - very short pile/mohair rollers best, foam next best but most of them swell then disintegrate in about 10-15 mins use. It dries very quickly, try to minimise going back over it to avoid picking up. You can get a nice matt finish though.

A/F is very useful stuff for preventing slugs eating delicate plants.

Many house points to be won if you paint some thin strips of wood with A/F and place them on the edge of flower beds.

Must admit to liking that silvery grey colour. Do Jotun do A/F in that shade ? Or could you mix 4 parts white to 1 pt black ?

10 litres is too much, you need 5 litres for 2-3 coats. Flog the other 5 litres! no point in plastering it all on, it will have gone past it's sell by date I should think by the time it gets down to your 6th coat!

I also used Jotun Seaqueen & 5 litres did 3 coats on my 24' long keel similar to yours but less area. 5 litres of anything has always given me about 2-3 coats depending on what it is. 2-3 coats will give 3 years protection minimum. It's good stuff, the docks use it. It's the only AF that everyone has had to good results with when reading forums posts!!

I believe you need to do trials to establish if self ablading is better than hard racing for slug repellent. Perhaps this is also an area where the ultrasonic might actually demonstrate some usefulness>
