The boom on my 1979 Westerly Pageant is way too low. It fouls the sprayhood and bumps our heads. I want to raise it about a foot and get rid of the through-mast roller reefing. Can anyone suggest how I do this and what fittings I need. I intend buying a new mainsail with slab reefing. Thanks in anticipation.

Greetings! I also had a sore head from a boom that appeared to be too low. I fabricated a short tabernacle, in my case 8 inches, repeating the fastenings on the deck and the support for the heel of the mast. This raised the mast and gooseneck out of the way. It causes problems with the standing rigging of course. The work coincided with a refit of the rigging, often necessary, but temporarily I extended the standing rigging with 8 inches of light chain to measure correct lengths. Careful over length of backstay and fore stay as they will need slightly more than 8 inches ( all to do with Pythagoras).
