SWMBO came home from work 6am this morning talking like a frog, seems there's a lot of it about (sore throats I mean).
Can't beat asprin.

Done the asprin.. even gargled soluble asprin... all it seems to do is alleviate the pain for a couple of hours.. then I wake up ...

I remember having a serial tonsilitis when I was a kid but doctor refused to whip them out.. grrrrrrrrrrrr

Tonsilectomy? Trouble is they won't do it while you have tonsillitis - I had mine done at the tender age of 27 and had to be dosed on antibiotics for weeks before the swelling went down enough to have 'em out.
RN Surgeon who did the job promised that the op wouldn't stop my hair falling out (he was right!) and his first words as I came round from the anaesthetic were 'bet you wish you hadn't come, now' - again he was right.

Tonsillectomy hurts like ....something you dont want to know about. Dont try it yourself as the carotid artery lies not far way and you'll make an awful mess of the kitchen table. (and ceiling, and walls..)
Had mine removed as a kid and didnt enjoy it. Remember being woken up by a formidable Hattie Jacques -like-matron and all the kids made to stand in front of a bath where some kid had laid a jobbie instead of using the bog. No one was allowed back to bed until someone owned up. Barbaric. Funny - hadnt thought of that for 46 years until this post came up.

Upper respiratory tract infections are viral in origin, and do not respond very well to anything much. The Director of the Cold Research Laboratory was once asked (before his establishment was wound up) what he considered to be the best remedy, and said hot whisky.
That is what I would do. Doesn't make you better, its just that for a time you care a lot less.
I have a major problem as HWMBO'ed is loose with the Araldite. Any ideas on removing said glue from spaniels?

Bucktrouts in St PP have stopped selling their own brand rum, they now sell own brand whisky. So I no longer have any strong urges to stay over in Guernsey. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

A good dose of rum and fresh squeezed orange (anything other than fresh is sacrilege)
or
Whiskey and fresh lemon and honey (warm – but not so hot as to kill the vit C in the fresh lemon).

How about some anti-inflamatories (NSAIDs) to reduce the 'itis'

Nigel, I bought a couple of bottles at, (was it "The Mermaid"?) on Sark this year and the guy behind the bar said they had plenty when I raised the question of cessation of supplies... Mind you it took a fair time to get him to reduce his original asking price of £15 a bottle!!
I'll race you back there, last one buys the next bottle!!!
Cheers Bob E...
