I have tonneaus for my small Antares 750. When do I use them? In the winter to protect the boat from the rain ? I'm new to boating in case it seems like a stupid question.
Thanks

Use it when you need the cockpit protected. If it is the type that covers the while cockpit at full height then the normal use is to extend the living space into the cockpit. This type is less useful as a winter cover because of th windage and the wear and tear on the plastic windows. A better type for winter protection is a simple cover that goes from the aft of the cabin down to the stern.

A tonneau cover will protect the cockpit from rain (and hence also frost damage in winter), UV damage, leaves (if the boat's ashore), dust/dirt, and bird droppings. They're also a deterrent to casual intruders.

When you use them is up to you. Definitely winter storage if you can. At other times it will depend to some extent on how small the cover folds (canvas will usually fold smaller than vinyl) and how much storage space you have available on board. Also how much of a faff it is to put in on and take it off.
