Seems to be a difference between Met Office and other sources.
Met Office say Portsmouth below zero tonight, XCweather gives 1 or 2 degrees above.
My outdoor thermometer supports XCweather, saying +2.3C at the moment.

What are others observing?

I need to drive to Southampton at horrid-o'clock, so I'm hoping that it won't freeze!

Take care,

I had to travel from Southampton to Heathrow at 3.30 this morning so last night I was comparing weather sites. Met office and BBC had snow throughout and temperatures below freezing but 3 others including XC weather showed no snow and temperatures 0 and 1 degree. The actual journey was very good with a little snow around Basingstoke on the way up and nothing on the way back at 6. Temperatures were correct for XC as well.

I always prefer xcweather, particularly when 'extreme' weather is involved. I can only assume that the metoffice are terrified of getting headlines around not reporting bad weather and err on the side of caution.

XC Weather use the GFS model uninterpreted for their "forecasts". No human input. MetO is a manual forecast taken from their own model and other models available. Generally I only really look at forecasts for wind strength and the GFS model gives very low figures. MetO tend towards the high side but as mentioned they could be staying safe. I think things are getting warmer right now and there was little of the snow forecast for the east last night and today.

Now Now

MetOff was forecasting 20cm of snow in SE today. Seems to have gone the same way as the barbecue summer.

Now now Ken lets not get sarky the met office has only got a gozzillion quids worth of putors so they're bound to get it wrong "occassionally" <s>.

Peter.
