Paynes Boatyard on BarryH's Leisure 22

wonderfully quiet, no wind, very tidy boat - not having an on-board loo really releases some good usable space

it is about a 40 minute drive from Littlehampton - slower in rush hour -

I would rather be on Harmony painting the loo

I am looking for an empty boat for the first two weeks in March - no cooking done on board, bring my own fan heater and sleeping bags

barry has gone to the ballet - so just me and a box of Merlot

I rather like the dinette

Missed the ballet, less said about that the better. There is a loo, your'll be sleeping atop of it. Its hidden under tyhe berth on the starboard side. Normally a curtain across the entrance to the forecbin. Is normally only me so I took it down.
I think theres a bottle of Highland Park or Jura in the locker under the sink.

I have a 23 as well, and I have an on-board loo. It isn't in a separate heads, but is under the end of the berth in the forecabin. Fine if you are on your own - not quite so good in company, although I have had three blokes on it for a week. The boat, that is, not the loo.

I've been rafted up to a Leisure 23 with three blokes on board. In the morning the skipper appeared on deck to empty the slop bucket over the side :D

Wasn't us. :) I guess the toilet wasn't a standard fitment. I do have two more holes in the hull than other 23s.

Oh no, that boat had a toilet, but the skipper sleeping on top of it quite reasonably didn't want to be woken up every time someone needed to dispose of some second-hand beer.

Fair enough - although I would expect my crew to recycle their beer straight overboard, rather than lovingly keep it in a bucket all night! If they don't want to go out in the cold, they shouldn't have drunk the beer. It's alright for me - I sleep where the toilet is.

I think a hard core camper like our Mr D would have loved the old Paynes-I almost didn't recognise all that posh hardstanding

the Leisure is being launched at the end of the month - so this is my last night aboard - so I have been offered a vega for the first two weeks in March

this morning the light was brilliant looking across the creek

it really is such a lovely place

I am looking forward to coming to Hayling Island Yacht Co next door

I did try to get a mooring here for two months but mark only does a whole year - still under £400 for the year

I had no idea that the harbour could be so cost effective

50 minute commute tonight

Dylan,

I expect you've noticed there's a new small but handy chandlery at Hayling Yacht Co ( only chandlery on Hayling now, next ones are at Emsworth ); more to the point, the ' Maypole ' a short walk away should be worth a try, I haven't been there for a few years but it always did good food at good value - there should be a particularly fine air to ground photo on the wall too ! :)

Remember Langstone SC free visitors mooring, it would take them by surprise and delight if someone actually used it; showers & bar if you time it right, near to 2 nice old pubs, nature reserve and long coast path walk to Emsworth, taking in Warblington cemetery where Peter Blake and a lot of sailors are.

The windvane is a 12 sq m Sharpie, this and a place in Norfolk used to have fleets until a few years ago.
