Tom Murrant

I've just realised that nothing has appeared on here about Tom Murrant, co-founder of Sealine and Chairman until he sold the company, who died suddenly last week, aged 65.

Some of you will have met Tom and Jane - or have met their son Jeremy.

I was at the funeral on Wednesday to pass on respects of all here.

I didn't know him either but he brought quality boats to the market that are built by British skilled workmen.

A great shame after the sudden death of Frank Fish last year

I only met him once at a Sealine sales day at their Swanwick yard. My SWMBO and I were looking over one of his boats when he came up and without introducing himself, asked us what we thought. In her own inimitable style, my SWMBO proceeded to tell him that this bit was rubbish, that bit was crap and why didnt they redesign those bits over there. Whilst this tirade was going on, Tom was quietly taking notes and after a good long while, he finally announced he was Chairman of the company, thanked my SWMBO for her valuable feedback and invited us to visit the factory in Kidderminster to see for ourselves how the boats were built. For once my SWMBO was lost for words
The UK has so few manufacturing success stories and Tom Murrant was responsible for one of them.
