Tolkien-esque boat names

I had a 'Pippin' once. Nice boat, nice name. IMHO anyway.

But there's a world of difference between naming a private boat, and setting up a business. At 'The Hobbit' they are cashing in on the exisiting fame and following of Tolkiens work. I am sure Galadriel above would like to make money out of his boat, but I know the only money that changes hands there goes the other way as he pays his bills!

Given the legal problems currently being experienced by Southampton's Hobbit pub https://www.facebook.com/SaveTheHobbitSouthampton I wonder if there are any boatowners out there who may be looking forward to a copyright infringement notice regarding their choice of boat names...
I know of boats called 'Shadowfax' and 'Gandalf' - any others? :)

Co-incidentally theres a Vivacity 21 on ebay by the name of Hobbit. I know 'cos i put it on there yesterday. There is a panel inside says something like.. " This boat was named after the Hobbit who went there and back again to see how far it was"

Apologies if it looks like i'm shoe-horning in an advert but coincidences like that dont happen that often.

Don`t know the area, surly if the place used the name before the book/ film was made then I dought if much will happen, if named recently then that would be a different suituation?

My boat is called 'Strider'. A few years ago at Ardglass I saw a yacht called 'Imladris' (a significant place in The Lord of the Rings) which had, written on the transom below the name, a poem quoted from the book referring to that place. Obviously I got into conversation with the skipper and we shared our obsession with the story.

I hope it was written in Elvish Runes.

All my boats have been Evenstar. Ellesar is Lady Arwen Evenstar's husband. They have an Arwen cocktail in the Hobbit pub, but not an Evenstar. There is a Galadriel cocktail too.

I drink there occasionally. It predates the film but not the book. However, they have been a bit naughty in eg using pictures from the film on event posters from time to time.

I heard on Twitter something about the US company (after all the publicity) agreeing to license them the names they're using for £100 per year; if accurate that sounds like a win all round.

I inherited the name Mordor when I bought the boat. It meant nothing to me . My wife thought it was probably previously owned by a couple from Essex called Morris and Doris!
I don't like the name anyway
Was your boat ever kept in Whitehaven marina? I ask because there used to be a boat there called 'Mordor' (i.e. Hell) and my wife & I thought it strange that somebody would thus name their boat. We guessed it might be something to do with the skipper's spouse's feelings about sailing.
