My Jabsco manual toilet pump handle has suddenly started popping up after use. I have to twist and lock to make it stay down. Brand new hoses and the pump assembly replaced last season. Anyone know why it should act like this?

I'd agreed with NormanS..

And before checking this out, don't force the handle up and down too much... It could turn the joker valve inside out and then it'll be an even more messy problem to solve..

As I say, the hoses are new and there is no apparent blockage as the toilet flushes normally.

Aptly named joker valve

It's either being pushed up from below or sucked up from above. May be a jammed valve on the inlet side. Have you tried changing from "empty" to "fill" when you've finished pumping?

Just had exactly the same thing when a big clod of weed got stuck in the inlet. With the lever to "dry bowl" it worked normally, in the "wet" position it resisted going down and sprang back up. Eventually (after some hours, with regular slow steady strokes at intervals during that time) it unstuck itself, but I was ready to disconnect and blow it out with the dinghy pump if required.

Not sure I understand, the whole concept of a twist lock is the handle can't be forced up like was often the case with the old type, it locks in the down position. so just do that.

There will be some sort of restriction on the outlet side, it dose not need to be a full blockage. It can be something as simple as a kink in the pipework. The only other thought, but it is rare is that there is a syphoning coming back through on the outlet side forcing the handle up (You do have anti syphon loops fitted?), however, if that is the case then the joker valve, although not really designed to stop this, may now need replacing, as it is not sealing correctly, and if any thing with back pressure should seal better....
