We have just re-fitted the aft cabin of our 33 foot Dutch steel cruiser - the toilet/shower compartment now runs along the entire starboard side of the cabin.

We used good quality steel Venetian blinds in the original compartmant but as the shower is closer to the window now than before we think this will not work.

One solution would be to use a privacy film applied to the inside of the windows. I have a few questions regarding this: 1. Are these films only available in a mirror finish exteriorly 2. Would film significantly darken the comaprtment, and 3. Would fllm survive shower water or are there specific waterproof film available for this purpose?

Are there any better suggestions other than using a film?

I've used film on glass shower room doors at home and it works fine. There are numerous patterns, but the simplest (giving complete privacy) is just like sand-blasted glass from either side. Light transmission is surprisingly good.

We have privacy film on the heads windows and this is on the outside surface of the glass. The effect we have is frosted glass and does not substantially darken the light level inside. Lots of this stuff about. self adhesive, mostly ls described as safety film.

I would go for a frosted type finish as there is nothing sillier than somebody in a lit bathroom at night thinking that they are invisible because of a mirror finish.

The downside is that a frosted finish on a boat window always seems a pity to me as there is something very pleasant about showering or shaving at a deserted anchorage with a view out the window.

At a deserted anchorage I would not be inside. Use the ouside shower or the hanging black bag.

Most film type coatings and dark perspex I know become thoroughly transparent if at night with a cabin light on, so a blind is an idea unless one wants a round of applause !

Have I been lakesailored yet, or is a response to Seajet required first?
