I know its probably been asked before but a friend has a large camper van with similar problem.

slight smell from toilet of urine.
smell from flush after not being on board for a while is not too bad.

Is there a proprietory item to put in the loo which will not damage the bog itself or the pipes when flushed?
fresh water (sea) inlet to holding tank.

Yep go to caravan shop and get one of the many rinse additives. Put half a cupfull into bowl when you leave the boat/caravan and whenever there is a smell lurking.

I have a motorhome, I put some blue gear in the holding tank and some pink stuff in the electric flush water. Have found identical equipment in camper shops much cheaper than the swindlers. Dave.

A good flush to ensure the waste pipe is fully flushed too all to the way to the skin fitting or holding tank (ie no waste down the pipe). Many family crew just flush heads until they no longer see the unmentionable, but it's often just a few feet down the pipe. Use of the high quality anti-smell waste pipes helps too. Cheap piping will always smell.

Use of 'Blue' also helps with holding tanks.
