So I dug out my old 3.5hp Tohatsu and found that the carb had gone walkabouts. I think it jammed up a few years back and I stripped it down, but have since moved house and the various bits of it have been scattered to the four winds.
Not to worry, I picked up a 'spares or repair' 2.5hp Tohatsu for £50 with the intention of robbing the carb off it... but found that all it needed was a new plug and a bit of fettling. So, that's great, I have a bargain working motor... and still need a carb for the other one
I see you can buy them brand new for about £85, which seems a wee bit steep, especially when carbs for similar engines like the little 2hp Yamaha are around £30.
A bit more digging around and I've found this:

Looks like the right bit. But before I try one out, has anybody on here had any luck with one of these? It is made of cheese-grade alloy?
And, lastly, if anybody has a genuine Tohatsu/Mercury/Mariner carb lying about I'd be very interested
