Hi Folks,

I decided to have a look at the impeller and it looked ok so reassembled ,result no water flow. Can you advice how the impeller is fixed to the shaft , suspect I have dropped a little screw or similar.

It was good fun although fitting the shaft ,water pipe and gear linkage was a bit of a fiddle

Many thanks

Rob

Some times a pin through the shaft. Some times just a little loose key that sits in a flat on the shaft

Look at the parts diags at http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Tohatsu/Outboard/parts.html

but all the 2 strokes appear to have no shift and the impeller on the prop shaft

New key usually/ often supplies with a new impellor.

i'd not re-fit an old impeller after all the trouble tearing down and reassembling.

In fact tomorrow will be ordering a new one for my 'rude. The old one looks Ok but all the vanes are well curled over .

VicS is quite right - there is a small key that stops the impeller from rotating on the shaft, which is very easy to lose when you take the impeller off. Have a look on the floor below where you took it off - you might be lucky!

If it is the same as ours (Tohatsu M3.5B2, https://shetlandf4.wordpress.com/auxiliary-engine/) then the part number is P/N 369-65022-0. However, there doesn't seem to be anything special about it - I have used an aluminium pop rivet mandrel cut to size (with any sharp edges rounded off) for a couple of years quite successfully.

I would agree - if you are going to all the faff of taking it off, I would put a new impeller in while you are at it.
