tohatsu 3.5 2stroke issues?

As above.

Fixed drive ( no reverse or neutral) ?

Then the water pump I think is located behind the prop so very easy to get at. If it has a netral gear then the water pump is located on the top of the gearbox ... so that has to come off to get at it.

While its adrift make sure you can get a flow of water either up the tube from the pump or back down the tube to the pump from the tell tale.

if you cannot then the water passage between the top of the driveshaft housing and the power head could well be blocked

Easy job , it's even in the PBO maintainence booklet thingy
I just done the very same thing , took me about 30 mins the hardest part was lining up the pump to pipe when puting all back together , don't forget to check impeller rotation though , easy to do when it's upside down in yr hand

The 3.5 has a forward/neutral dog-clutch and (unlike the 2.5 fixed forward) a stainless steel waterpump, otherwise it's the same engine, also available under Mariner and Mercury badges
It is an excellent engine the only problem being the nylon bearing for the forward/reverse swelling and jamming the gearchange.
The impeller in the OP's engine is no longer rotating - sometimes it's just the drive peg jumping out of the impeller slot - and he needs to check that.
A free manual is available from Marks Web of books (just Google).

Both Tohatsu and Mariner returned no results on that site. It did, however, return a whole host of popup rubbish so I suggest people don't google for Marks Web of Books because it looks like its a dodgy site.

My Tohatsu tends to get salt incrustations in the tell tale - change of diet required? It's part of the seasonal maintenance to gently probe up the tell tale with wire, drills etc to maintain a good flow. When blocked you can get some exhaust coming through and maybe some steam, I suspect it does no harm but it doesn't inspire confidence either!

If it gets really badly blocked it may be neccessary to remove the cowling so that you can get the rubber hose off for deeper penetration.

Rob.

Depends on exactly which version. Some do some dont

Yep sure thing mate!
Theres nothing left of it whatsoever haha im just trying to figure out how its got in that state, anyhow im off for a shower im completly covered in oil!!

Been run dry ??

Bits of that may be lodged in the cooling system At least back flush the water tube down from the telltale and check that you can get a good water flow through the whole thing before re-assembling
