I now have a 9.8hp 2 stroke but seems from the workshop manual that above 8 they are about the same. I ordered a service kit with the impeller and 1 supplied gasket but then I found the workshop manual which shows a full overhaul of the pump not just an impeller change and it suggests changing 2 gaskets and using an expensive anaerobic gasket maker which I know will go off before I go to use it again.
So I'm wondering if its possible to change the impeller without cracking the seal on the lower gaskets and also if it does leak am I right in thinking its not so critical, not like water will be getting into the gear box? It seems the mid section isn't that well sealed against water ingress anyway as there is no gasket on the joint between the gearbox and midsection of the leg.
