i have now ordered new anodized toe rail and removed the old, will improve deck space and looks 100% im thinking. i think it was the cost of the anodized rail which would have made the original owner fit the timber rail.........yuk!

Aluminium has its place, ie beer cans.
Timber is a beutiful product which if looked after is pleasing to the eye, especially where boats are involved.

No wonder he changed them if the original owner used dead trees as toe rails! However if the tree is used as a raw material and worked by a craftsman there is no better material in my view.
