I keep a log.................one day I`ll get round to writing in it !!!
 
I use a Souwester Log Book obtainable for about £10 at Barnes, Southwick, and actually do have a few entries for each days sailing. The column entries are: Time,Course steered, Log reading, Wind speed and direction, Lat, Long, Next waypoint, distance to go, log narrative(a very wide column) and Tidal adjustment. Barry

I use an old Filofax as a logbook.
I print out a 'Passage' sheet which has boxes for:
Date, From, ETD, To, ETA, Crew.
Tidal Info: for Dover, 'From Port', 'To Port', (to cover two days)
WP Info (for 5 WP's): Lat/Long, CTW, DTW, Degrees of course change +/- to go from one WP to the next

And an 'hour log' sheet which has boxes for:
Date, Time, Head, Log, COG, SOG, CTW, DTW, Position, CTE, Comments. Each page takes eight hourly entries.

I have it set-up on an Excel spread sheet, if anyone would like a copy send me a PM with an e-dress.

Nice idea using an old filofax. I'll bet that's there's lots of them lying around waiting for a new use. I've got three!

Most of the replies seem to have the same enteries as my logbook. A 'day' is spread over 2 sides of A4 which gives room for my large hand writting, especially when rough. The only other items to add are high and low water either for a local port when weekend sailing or for a standard port when on holiday. When the holiday goes well you can use the tidal info to help plan next years jaunt ....

don,t keep a log ..bit of a notebook for shopping lists phone no. etc. but an actual log ??? Professional seaman has to keep a log with mostly useless information that might be important in the event of accidents or disputes with charter parties etc. but now that I have time to sail for my own pleasure no way that I,ll keep a log..
 
if you pm me your e mail addy, i will send you the file that contains my log book layout. i print the page off the pc, photocopy it and use in a loose leaf book.
 
I print it out from a Word file in table format, headings as below - send me your email if you want the file. Also keep a 'deck log', piece of laminated card to write on with a chinagraph pencil for single-handed sailing / avoid going below - usually time, log & GPS fix to plot later.
