Hi to you all and a happy New Year
I hope this goes well as I have never been on a Forum Before. My wife and I wish to take our motor boat a Grand Banks down to the Black Sea via the rivers Rhine and the Danube. I remember seeing an article in one of the monthly magazines about a year or so ago about a couple who had made the same trip. I would very much like to find this article again to read of their experiences. Can anyone help me in locating the article so I can purchase a back copy. Also if anyone has any experience or anything that they feel may be of interest in planning such a trip I would be pleased to hear from you.

It's unusual for no one to have helped with your query as yet Graham.
Have a word with MBM direct, as they should have a record of what they've published in the past. I believe the article was in MBM and not MB&Y but may be wrong. It could even have been in PBO.

PS Welcome.

Several years ago there was a very enjoyable (well I thought it was) television series about a man called Goodwin who took an old Thames tug and a lighter across the channel and as far as Vienna.

He also wrote this book about his experiences.

Planning to do the same thing myself(in a year or so).I had a lot of info given on the yachting forum but i dont believe it included the book you mention

Read the book Jack De Crow by A.J Mackinnon. He did the same journey. Rather an entertaing read. A bit of any eye opener too.

In 1995 the trip to the Black Sea via the Rhine and Danube was made by Bill and Laurel Cooper in their Dutch barge Hosanna. In 1997 they published "Back Door to Byzantium" a most entertaining account of their journey. Obviously much will have changed in the last 15 years but if it's inspiration you want I suggest you get yourself a copy of their book.

Thanks for the help

Hi all
Just to say thanks for the helpful information. I have ordered both books and been to the suggested web sites.
The more info the better in helping me plan the trip.
Regards

Hi, I organised a successful delivery trip on this route a couple of years ago. If you'd like to contact the skipper, please feel free to PM me.

i was doing the same research as you a year ago and found a very informative blog of the same journey done by a french couple on the web.it was a couple of years old then.the infrastructure was slowly recovering from the war but they managed to find water and fuel.had to use a pilot towards the black sea and water depth was a problem even for a mobo.check out www.cruiserlog.com they had a forum thread on that very thing.
