That is the question

For reasons that almsot entirely escape me, people seem to appreciate my less than erudite rambling descriptions of what we're up to on Brigantia

Which gives me to wonder whether to start a web log (a.k.a. "blog" ugh)

If more people say "yay" than "nay" I shall contemplate doing so - it'll give me an excuse to dodge doing some gardening this weekend (was planning on going sailing but that's postponed to next weekend 'cos there's a wee bit too much breeze forecast for this 'un)

As a blogger myself I'd say don't do it for anyone except yourself...

I use mine as my ships log, readers/followers are a bonus, but primarily it's there for me to write what I want... if you do it the other way round you spend all your time thinking about things to write about that you think people will like.. that way lies madness... :p

Ah well, madness is easy. I can do madness. No problem :) (really, I can, honest - I'm definitely mad as a box of frogs ... although my quack witters on about something called bipolar disorder whatever the hell that is)

I've already got a private blog running for just the reasons you mention as it happens and I'm with you all the way philosophically. If I open it up to a wider readership they'll get served up with whatever drivel I feel moved to write and nothing at all when I'm not interested! If by some miracle a few people find it interesting or amusing fine.

Mine started like that, but I found I enjoyed writing.
Still not bothered if anyone else reads it. :)

write a blog

think of the future

and imagine if in 300 years time you could read a blog written by a sailor - talking about the wildlife, the businesses along the waterways, the price of a loaf of bread or a pint of beer

Now as something of an amateur historian, that really does appeal to me

Looks like its a yay then :)

Spent the day staying out of the wind and setting up the blog ...

Hope you like it. If you don't, well I don't care so there :)

I can see it.
I love reading things like this. They give a great perspective on all the issues we face on our boats. It doesn't matter how trivial things may seem to the writer, sometimes a little gem of information might help a fellow sailor.
