I also have a an M50 and have been using the MD22 workshop manual as reference.Let me have your e-mail address through a pm and I shall e-mail the workshop manual of an MD22 if this is what you are after. I think the "T" is the turbocharged vesion.

The tmd22 is the turbo charged version of the md22 which is the perkins prima 50 which is the montego 2 litre diesel.
the later engines have a big cast iron manifold that duals as exhaust and inlet manifold with the raw water/fresh water intercooler bundle in it. The early ones had a tube bundle with rubber endcaps, similar to the latest 20X0 series engines, The turbo version has the turbo bolted on the end of the manifold and an oil cooler bolted on the other end. The engine is basically the same in all versions with the oil and fuel filters the same and the cam belt exactly the same on them all. In essence, your hand book for your Perkins will be the same for simple jobs, and the workshop manual will differ only in exhaust and oil cooler details. How do I know all this? Because my mate has a Moody with a TMD22 and I have an MD22 and have worked on both of them. ( I changed the cam belt this afternoon, an easy job that took about an hour and a half)

Skipper Stu - just ordered a copy of your article of cam belt change for an MD22 which I have on my westerly sealord so hope to do that job sometime in the near future. More pressing is the gasket between the cylinder head the cooling system which has a small leak where I suspect I have been losing coolant.

I have the Volvo Workshop Manual for MD22L, MD22 and TMD22 Publication No: 7732779-9 dated 04-1995 and it is near on useless in that it makes huge assumptions on some of the tasks and misses out on alot of the description and explaination. I know the Volvo engineers have something much more detailed.

Two questions:

1.have you replaced this gasket on an MD22?
2. Do you know where I can get some detailed instructions for doing this job.

Many thanks

Nigel

You'll only get a very basic operating manual from the Volvo Penta site. However, you can download a workshop manual for the TMD22 from here. Separately, the specifications are available here, and the electrical system details are available here.

Take a look at the 1999 workshop manual here.

Many thanks for this just what I needed. Now I have to pluck up the courage to replace the gasket between the heat exchanger and engine block myself and look at changing the cambelt. Finally should look at replacing the engine mounts which are rusting badly.

Again many thanks. regards Nigel

Engine mounts are from here http://www.robush.co.uk/onlineshop/list_prod.cfm make sure that you specify metric fine threads, they send coarse as std and good old VP use fine. I actually rcd the coarse and got a mate to rethread the studs.
