Hi

I have two V8 260hp carb mercruisers with 2 alpha 1 legs out of one of my project boats, engines rusted badly, bearings rusted etc etc def. need rebuilding without question but do start and run without too many strange noises and 2 legs, bottom end seems ok but the rest needs rebuilding

Do these have any value or basically do I strip the top off the engines and find myself with 16 novelty plant pots!

I'm going to go for new repower, might rebuild them anyway as it might be fun to do

THIS ISNT AN ADVERT TO SELL THEM !!!! THEY ARE NOT FOR SALE

just not sure if they have much value in their current state, both late 80's

thanks

Well, there is a rumour that the engine blocks that BMW used for their most powerful racing engines ever had already done 100,000 km in saloon cars before being rebuilt as racing engines! Also that they were left out in the rain for yonks and occasionally widdled on by the engineers while exposed to the elements. Go for it, strip 'em down, see what state they're in, then make a decision.

Good luck!

At their present condition and age they are only worth money to someone who wants them. I would remove the bits that you think are of value and sell them seperatly you will make more money than selling complete.
