The FW circulating pump on my VP 2003 was refurbished a couple of years ago, and reassembled by a marine engineer. However, since then there has been a small but steady leak at the housing joint. I want to fix this, so plan to remove the pump and fit a new seal.

The seal in question is a paper type seal. Any tips about how to fit these, surface prep, use of sealant or grease?

Thanks!

Gasket #9 ??

Make sure the joint faces are clean, free of all traces of old gasket and not damaged or distorted

I'd put the new one on with smear of grease but I'd think no objection to a thin smear of Hylomar Blue or even Hylomar Hylotyte Red ( which replaces the familiar old Red Hermetite) or your favourite gasket sealing compound

remove pump

scrape all old material off

paper with fine wet and dry to a clean metal finish.

apply dow silicone sealant to both metal surfaces.

attach paper to the one with the lip. usually the pump.

mount pump put in bolts.

lightly bolt up.

fully tighten after 15 mins.

see there has been a reply already. that will teach me to refresh before typing doh.
idealy allow to stand for 2 hours before refilling. others will say you can refill immediately.
