Tips on creating a trotter box

I need to create a shallow trotter box into my wet locker. I’m ready with the jig saw but wondered what usually happens at the lip / edge of the box. Is there a foam insert which can be put in place or do people create a permanent bed extension?....or am I being a ‘wus’ and a shelf of ply is all a man needs!!
I’ve looked around online and can’t find any example pictures. I’m sure it’s obvious but...first boat and all that. Pictures, tips, examples greatly appreciated.

Either the bunk cushion extends all the way, or there's a separate piece of fabric-covered foam the same height that continues it. In your case obviously the latter is easier unless you're replacing the bunk cushions anyway.
