I have finally got round to having my boat renamed. Why has it taken so long? Because the name was painted on and, my boat being steel with a white paint coating, I had great difficulty trying to decide how to remove the old name (which was particularly ugly and writ large) without it looking like it had been there or ruining the hull paint and leaving me with a complete recoat job.
Eventually, I was directed to a local traditional signwriter who turned out to be the guy that painted it last time!
Anyways, heres the tip...........they used a stripping gel called Safer Stripper which is much milder than usual paint strippers and. by working carefully were actually able to remove the blue lettering without removing the white hull paint underneath. It also claims to be suitable for working in confined spaces cos the fumes level is minimal.
So for what its worth it looks like this.......
and I have found a few mail order places on the web at around £9-£10 per litre.
