I was supposed to have these on my brand new S29.
When i realised they were missing and asked for them to be sent I was delighted to recieve two pieces of perspex 150 x 90 x 5 mm with two large holes cut in them and a small hole in each corner.
I spent an hour trying to figure out how they were supposed to fit.
you are quite welcome to have them...if you really want somehting that tacky.
sort of agree with you Doug in that they are easy to damage and look a mess.
My boat has a molding in the fiberglass so I have little option but to keep replacing as the plastic cracks , scratches and discolours.
Polycarbonate is more resilient.
The problem is actually hitting the hole with the tin, it looks easy but by the time you have had a few or while in a rough sea it is harder than it looks and the can acts as a hammer as the boat rises in a swell to meet your can/hammer and crack, there goes another !
I believe Trevera25 has a load of glass and bottle holders , and all sorts of other plastic and glass shelving and fittings. Think you'll find them on Sailroom.co.uk when its back up and running in a day or 2.
Got some from Mailspeed, gimballed---seem to work best after two or three goes and between Force 3/4.
After 8 goes I think they need "Tensioning" or stabilisers fitting because they become difficult to locate without spillage.
Suprisingly quite effective at soundproofing the boat and the peripheral noises from Marina pontoons etc.
Cos with continiuos use during the evening an amazing quiet decsends.
Stangeley accompanied by a fuzzy bussing affect in the morning.
So Mailspeed dot something and The Cockpit will become a more pleasant area to enyoy the boat.
Fitting said GBH,s (Gimballed Beverage Holders) needs thought .
IE. Measurements need to be taken, from the point where the elbow pivots from it,s wresting point and can deposit the can or tumbler (Tumbler /Glass needs to be a decent fit into holder not too tight not too slack) back into The Holder without too much exertion or risk of spillage.
Also stock of said beverage needs to be stored in convenient area, temperature controlled and in a place of easy access.
You can,t be too carefull these days.
Health and Safety and all that.
Drinks holders on Mobos is a serious matter, not to be treated flippantley.
Manufacturers should send their most "Uppancoming" students / designers on a serious "Think Tank".
Too much consideration is being given to areas like Propulsion(IPS) ,Seaworthyness(What does that mean?) Range(Who goes anywhere?),Safety (Nobody strays too far from My Marina) and stuff like like DSC VHF, with Red Button facility! Waste of space, last time I saw a man overboard was on the next pontoon cos He,d over used his drinks holder, which wasn,t gimballed but He thought it was ! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
DIW,
I got mine from the caravanning section on ebay, and for 2.99 a pair/reasonable postage.
I have 2 in the forecabin and 2 in the aft cabin for breakfast in bed purposes. They work well, but make sure you get the ones with a gap in the top ring, or you cant pass a cup handle into it. I had to modify mine by cutting a 12mm gap. Easy, but a pain.
They are a bit flimsy in the cockpit though, so I have bendytoy ones with suction pads which are tapered and will hold a bottle of Spitfire/Pint Jug, can or glass. They can be kicked and squashed, just return to their shape. Unfortunately I got them from Beaulieu Jumble from a new old stock box, 2 for a quid.
