A dilema, 4 day weekend to go sailing or watch the jubilee events on TV and go to something local?

I had planned sat overnight and backon sunday am to watch the Thames pageant on TV but put off by forecast of rain decided to day sail today.

Got down to boat and blowing F6 up the stern with a long fetch up the harbour and SWMBO feeling seasick on the new linear pontoon which was going up and down a fair bit. looked gloomy up wind and I wondered about getting on and off the pontoon with just SWMBO so essentially single handed.

Eventually decided to go home, took the ships bunting home to decorate the house and spent the afternoon going to the tip, tidying the garden, mowing the lawn, decorating the house with said bunting and taking car to the car wash where you are descended upon by an army of eastern europeans who very efficently hand wash the car, great entertainment!

Helped get ready for friend coming round tonight.

No sailing but a few brownie points to earn an exeat for when the weather is better, or maybe escape on monday?

I'm with you on this.

Went to have a look early this morning and reported back that it was more BBQ then sailing weather.

To quote the old "i'd rather be in here wising I was out there than....."

Mind you early morning I felt a bit feeble, so really glad to hear I'm not alone on staying put.

Well I've just got back from a great day's sailing, so there :)

Pete

I felt a bit feeble but would have gone out with different crew and things might have been less boistrous on the pontoon as the tide dropped and the mudflats were exposed but SWMBO is a fair weather sailor and did get brownie points for doing the garden!

We were aiming from the Hamble to Chichester to meet friends. We decided after a while that beating there, spending a blustery night at anchor, then beating back in the rain if the weather developed as forecast wasn't perhaps the best idea of having fun we could dream up.

Instead we turned around and had a fantastically fast sail back, marred only slightly by having to faff around in a very undignified sail flappy fashion for a few moments to sort out an entirety self-inflicted jam on the headsail furler when we decided that perhaps fantastically fast was becoming imprudently fast and reducing sail would be wise.

As it turned out, we had a good blast even if it wasn't to the plan we had in mind.

I think we saw you heading down Southampton Water over on the Fawley side just as we were heading back into the Hamble, Pete. Looked like you were going well.
