With more time on my hands, it has been a chance to do some sorting out of the boxes of stuff that I brought home from the boat at the end of last season. Included were the books that live on board. Thumbing through last year's Reeds Almanac, made me appreciate again how the first eight chapters provide a fantastic summary of the "essential" knowledge that is needed for sailing. Reading through them has reminded me about things that I should really remember, but can easily forget, and unearthed some things that I hadn't twigged before. Any other tips for easy ways to update knowledge/skills while sitting out the epidemic?

Some good stuff in there, if people bother to read it.

Hands up all those optimists who have bought this year's almanac!

Each year Santa leaves one at the bottom of the chimney with my name on. I’ll usually read the opening chapters on the day I receive it, often at my brothers home. At one time I was castigated for taking no part in the festivities but it’s now become custom and practice so I’m left in peace. ?

I don't buy it anymore - I get a copy for collating the local information.
I did buy the Macmillan Almanac when the old Reeds collapsed, and realised what I had been missing. (Though I keep a copy of the old Reeds Nautical Companion in my library, for reference.)
This is a very peculiar year indeed for getting updates!
