Somewhat typical of Matt to refer to the Panama Canal as a short cut, glad to see he's still out there tearing about the place.

Thanks for that, jfm. Makes me want to give up work:)

Yup, makes you think. Matt got it right with his "stop work at 47". You must have an exit strategy though? Or at least a spreadsheet :D
Yup, we have an exit strategy on paper. The problem is putting that strategy into practice! Difficult to extract yourself from something you've spent more than 20yrs building

exactly,
especially not when I like what I'm doing,
and not to forget the social live with friends and family
and responsability's for 4 kids still at school.

I don't fancy sitting on a boat on the other side of the world, without all that.

but much respect and admiration for those who can !!!

coincidently, our eldest sun was there last week, during a 2 week holiday (Panama and costa Rica) with all last year unif students,
A trip sponsored by Belgium contruction company "De Nul".
They had a very big construction work near a lock on pacific side of the Panama Canal.
Thats their method to recrute young civil engineers.

Jasper enjoyed the film :)

how about the weather in september over there,
I believe weather will be better and there will be much more fun in SOF then,
what do you think ? ;)

... the long range forecast for Porquerolles Island will be:

winds ranging between 1 to 3 knots with no swell or sea, air temperatures of 30 to 35 deg. C and water temp. of 28 deg. C, between the dates of Sept. 29 and Oct. 6, 2012

...........in a secluded bay aboard the good ship BA there will be lots of good food and wine, with much recounting of stories of great boating feats that will go long into the night..................of course the longer into the night they go and the number of empty bottles on the table, there will be no guarantees on the accuracy of wind strengths and wave heights :D:D

So the answer is yes, the SoF is a clear winner :)
