You would miss out on nice trips - and get to do some jobs on the boat.

Me? I take the boat to McAllister's in Dumbarton. Very handy

Hmm - oxymoron there I fear - Solway + Haven!
Probably not - if we came down the Portpatrick route we'd probably leg it back to Fleetwood in one from there. If we came down the Irish side, again we'd possibly run right across either from Pt of Ayre or Chicken to Fleetwood.
I'm thinking
Day 1 either Kilmelford to Islay or Kilmelford to Tarbert via Crinan.
Day 2 Islay to Bangor/Strangford/Ardglass or Tarbert to Portpatrick
Day 3 Wherever to Fleetwood.

Too late. The crew (all 12 of us) are signed up and ready to go.
If he doesn't turn up we'll just take the boat and head south anyway....

This just gets better - perhaps we could set up a relay team - I'll sail out of Kilmelford - say as far a Croabh then get off and go and get my car. This would leave Para, Jimi and Longjohnsadler to get the boat through the canal. I could then go along the road and open a few locks on the Crinan and drive down to Tarbert and get the beers in. Donald and Sheena could then join and take the boat through the Kyles as they know where the sticky up bits are there. I'll meet them in Inverkip and run them home whilst Jimi could take it from Kip as he would be bound to have had a good sleep by now. He could take it doon ra Clyde past East Kulbride and doon tae say Troon. The Sadler could then take it across the North Channel to the Irish waters he knows so well. Para would then take over and take her to the Isle of Man as he misspent parts of his youth there and so knows it well. In the meantime I could have driven back home and caught the King Orry where I could meet up with the erstwhiles in Douglas to do the last bit back to Fleetwood.
