My TP10 which has a random but annoying fault. While going along the rod will suddenly extend turning the boat to starboard. When fully extended it sticks there and no amount of button pushing in any mode will make the rod retract. However if I unplug it and let it "rest" for half an hour or so it seems to reset and when I plug it in again it's OK; this then lasts for an undefined period. It's nothing to do with wind or sea - does anyone have any idea what might be causing it. Many thanks

Had a similar problem several years ago with a TP10 . Turned out to be the compass was at fault. was cheaper to buy new than repair. Hope yours is a different problem . Good luck .

Have a look at the Technical Bulletin near the end of this document dealing with the Hall Effect Feedback PCB positioning. Mine had actually got damaged and I had to order one (I think via Marine Superstore at Port Solent). You may get away with just repositioning if this is the fault.
I also found a bad connection on the 'sounder' thing near the keyboard, but that just caused it to go into standby mode without warning.

Good luck.

Had a problem with my TP10 last year and when i opened it up i found out that the hall effect pcb had its sensor arms snapped off by the rotating magnets as discribed in the technical buliten above. Managed to get a spare ordered through a local marine electronics supplier, soldered it in and its worked perfect ever since.

Hope this solves your problem!

I had a similar problems a while back. First the unit would wonder off course but you could still control it in manual mode. After fixing the magnets back in the holes with superglue it was ok for the next 4 years. Last year it had the same problem as yours I opened it up and there where some burnt components of the main PCB I replaced then as best as I could but I could never trust it again - some days OK but others it would slowly extend the road. I ended up with a new one. But do try the hall effect sensor

Looking at the CCT - if you where to look anywhere I would focus on the bridge network that drives the motor direction via TR10-13

TP10 turns right

Many thanks everyone for the advice. I think this is a home repair job; if it works, fine and if not it will have to be a new one

I had a problem with my TP10. It would suddenly go mad and start steering round in circles. I contacted Raymarine and returned it to them (it was well out of warrantee as it came with the boat). They tested it over a period of days to identify the intermittant fault and eventually identified what was wrong which was a dry joint. This was repaired and returned for about £60 which I thought was good value. It then functioned well and as far as I know is going still. The TP10 was a little underpowered for my 28 footer and would occasionally be overwhelmed with a quartering sea.
