Help please - I installed a new deck plug & socket for my old ST1000 TP as the old one was badly corroded and the TP didn't work. Unfortunately I got the polarity wrong and when I tried it the TP didn't work at all. - Not surprising really - I then rewired the plug to match the socket and tried again - seeming success - until I left the harbour when the TP sent the boat around all the points of the compass !
Have I knackered the TP completely ?

Hmm ... sounds like your TP doesn't know where the middle is! Worth going through the re-calibration routine...

Could it that the old one was on a port mounting and the new one comes with a starboard mounted default?

If all else fails read the instructions

/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif He changed plug / socket .... not TP ..... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Does the 1000 have a calibration routine? Don't remember it on my old 800 (mind you that was pretty old, and the book didn't come with it!).

Sounds like in all the wiring comings and goings it thinks it it on the other side of the boat.

I did exactly the same on my old Autohelm 1000 (note not "ST") I guessed which wire would go where when I bought a new plug, and, of course, guessed wrongly. The answer is to remove the small central screw from the back of the unit, which hides a smaller screw, which adjusts the port/starboard orientation. It tends to stick in your mind when the tiller jams hard over!
