My tiller has suddenly become a bit wobbly on my Dehler 31. After inspection I found that there are bearings in the bit that connects to the rudder and one has fallen out and the other one is about to. Does anyone have an recommendations of someone who could fix this for me in Chichester or surrounding?

Is it a bearing. My Moody just has a bolt through the tiller and the rudder stock. Probably just a bush. Measure the hole and the bolt and work out what size and thickness. I don't know what it is made of (looks rusty??). Google will find you a bush of the required size.

Anyway have you looked here for Dehler parts?

Hi Moody, thanks for the advice. Are bushes easy to fit?

I checked the Dehler Owners but didn't find the part I wanted. I did however find a company in Germany that still stock Parts for Dehler 31/DU94 whom I'm still waiting for a response from.

Push the old one out before you get the new one made. It is probably a simple machining job that any machine shop with a lathe can do - but they need a pattern or very clear instructions.

It is not clear how it is attached to the tiller from your pic. Is there a clamp of some sort?

BTW it may not need to be metal as such bushes are often a composite like Delrin.

No there is no clamp it's just a round hole with a rusting bit of metal in it. As for how its attached I would guess it has been cooled to a low temperature and then hammered in.

I could take the tiller off and take to the machine shop to be sure they would know what's involved.

Looks like it has a keyway - must have some means of keeping it on the rudder stock in the correct position.

There is a long bolt with a nut at either end that goes through the holes with the bushes and 2 washers for each nut.

so it goes: Nut, washer, washer, tiller bracket with bush, tube attached to rudder, tiller bracket with bush, washer, washer, nut.

Yep it sound daft but the best way I could think of describing the setup.:o

Conclusion:

I got the new bearings from a company in Germany who very helpful, they don't speak English but Google Translate solved the language barrier via email.

So fo any Dehler owners looking for parts try theses guys:

This weekend I went to fit the bearings to the tiller and they were mite too big:mad:! So I took a walk down to C & B Marine (Chichester Marina) and ask if they could fit the bearings for me. The chap I spoke to said "I can't fit those as I don't have a 20mm drill bit with me but I can make some for you" 15 mins later I had new bearings fitted he only wanted a fiver! So big thanks to C & B Marine for helping me out at the drop of a hat.
