There I was sitting in my cabin having a well earned beer admiring my efforts to tile around the galley, including adjacent to the stove,
Mr Know-it-all from the next boat had a look and said 'nice job, pity they will crack with the heat from the stove' Admittedly when the pots and pans are on the stove there is not much room between their edge and the tile surround.

Can anybody recommend a heat protector - similar to the asbestos mat we used to have on the ironing boards?? I will trim it to fit alongside the cooker and tile surround.

Many thanks

David

You can buy a heat mat used for protection while soldering copper fittings from your local DIY shop. They are only about 10"x10" .

Have you got a couple of the tiles left over? If so, why don't you forget the protection and see if they actually do crack. If they do, you've only sacrificed an hour's work in replacing them and if they don't you've saved the trouble of the heat shield and as a bonus you can enjoy telling Mr. Knowall.

You could.....

...sew a few of those together, WI patchwork bedspread style and get a nice "quilted" look

Tip: switch the run of the weaving 90degrees between adjacent patches to get a nice chequered pattern
