Tight leech, loose foot

I have in-mast furling and last week when I hauled the sail out, the leech was really tight and the foot was still quite loose, so not matter how hard I tugged on the clew outhaul, I couldn't get the foot of the sail as straight as I would like it to have been.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to which bit of string I need to adjust to get this sorted (the leech line was slackened off, so it wasn't that), or is it perhaps that my sail has become too baggy - she's 10 years old.

Thanks

Mark

As above + let the kicker off.
You could double check by putting extra tension on the topping lift whilst you pull it out to see if it helps.

Check the slider car in the boom in case there's a blockage stopping the car sliding or if the boom track has had a knock.

The out-haul on my in-mast furling main goes around a block in the clew of the sail before being returning to and being terminated at a car which slides up and down a groove in the top of the boom.

As the outhaul is tightened the leech will be pulled tight but once the block in the clew is pulled down to the car on the boom then the only remaining movement possible is for the car to be towed out along the boom by the outhaul.

The only 3 reasons I can think of for not pulling the foot of the sail taught are: -

1. You have it rigged up wrongly
2. The car is jammed
3. You are not pulling hard enough!!
