Can anyone tell me the times of High water at either Oban or Dover for the 13th and 14th July 2006.

Thanks

That looks good, if my memory serves and I don't have charts or pilots to hand, I could leave Largs at 07.00 on the 13th and be in Oban on the Friday night having rested in Ghigha and Craobh between tides. Can anyone confirm that.

Thanks for the info Steve /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just a note .... (I and others are happy to answer such tides etc.) .... if you google for WXtide etc. - you can download older WXtide version before 26 - that gives tide info for years to come ... it's an excellent program. Version 26 + was capped by UKHO ... I think it was 26 ....

Or PM me and I'll dig it out of archives and e-mail to you.

Followed Nigel's suggestion and found this:

WXTide32

Note that this is released under the GNU protocol - that is, it is free to use and redistribute under the terms of the GNU General Public Licence, so don't yet understand the reference to 'capping by UKHO'.

I've no idea at present whether it will do what I/you want of it, and maybe others will have more current gen to post....

WXtide and UKHO

UKHO required WXtide to remove UK harmonics as a subject of Copyright.

Earlier versions of Wxtide - which was used for base of Palm Tide Tool, C-Tide, P-Tide programs etc. had UK harmonics in. So get a version earlier than this ... Version 25 I think is the best - then you have good UK as well. (Later still does UK - but based on different data).

But best all-rounder IMHO is Belfield Tidee Plotter - about a Tenner down local marine Book-Store / Chandlers - this is UKHO harmonics, simplified but still good.

You don't say what type of boat you have, I assume if your stopping in Gigha then you are going the long way. Are you allowing for bad weather and tides around the mull of Kintyre. I reckion it is 130 miles
If you PM me your e-mail adress I will send you a copy of WXtide 26 it has all the ports that later versions don't.

Re: WXtide and UKHO

Thanks, Nigel. I'll dig deeper into Gurgle until I find the unexpurgated version.

In the interim, I'll carry on carrying on with my trusty Reeves-Foulkes and TH diagrams.

To all if you want it ...

I can e-mail a copy if anyone wants it.

Re: WXtide and UKHO

Nigel, I think your version numbers may be a bit skewed. See this ref . The history shown there makes me wonder how much one is throwing away (bug-wise) in order to use the UK harmonics? Just how much 'off' are the predictions between the latest WXTide and ??

** I put ?? as there has been a lot of debate as to the most authoritative reference for UK. Droggies EasyTide or TotalTide and the SHOM Tidal Predictor for France seem to be in very close agreement, and I cant imagine the French being anything but independent on their figures, plus Droggie has the most money and investment in UK.

Most people will allow about 0.5m clearance over a bar, maybe more over a rock - so just how inaccurate would WXTide32 latest version be?? Anyone done any comparisons??

Re: WXtide and UKHO

I have both wxtide 25 and wxtide 32 and have not noticed any great difference in results - at least none that would worry me unduly.

Re: WXtide and UKHO

hang on let me check the one I have installed ... I'm using WXtide32 vers. 2.6 ...... I slipped a version earlier in saying 2.5.

There has always been a variance with other tidal programs and they have theirs as well. But in practical terms haven't suffered as a consequence.

Let's be honest - slightest change in weather / pressure / wind direction etc. and tide prediction takes a dive. They are all compromise predictions using a standard set of parameters ... one alters - results alter. I can remember plenty of times high pressure and I couldn't get back onto pontoon at Thornham ....

Can't remember when the differences greatest between tables - but seem to remember it may be round greatest springs ... and reducing to neaps ??

As I have Belfields, WXTide, C-Tide, Palm Tide as well as all sorts of other tables etc. to check up on - I tend to average them out if I want best answer. Otherwise I stick with the palm Tide-tool ... based on the Xtide .... which is basis for WXtide in fact. David Flater.

Xtide

and Palm tide tool is available as Freeware via : Palm Tide Tool

A search on Google turns up many GNU licence tide programs that run on Palm, PC and Win CE devices.

As to bugs .......... don't notice them really ... !! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am tryng to decide which way to go in order that I can book the appropriate time off. The charts atlas etc are on the boat so I am trying to work it out without. Going the long way has its attractions if the weather is ok, the canal is shorter in distance but maybee not in actual time if the tide timings are good.
