Can anyone pls tell me the high tide times for the 10th and 17th of November for the Crouch & Blackwater? My almanac is back on the boat and I'm trying to plan ahead to a trip up the coast to bradwell and need to pick the best weekend to get over the passage between ray & buxey sands.

Thanks!

Looks like the 10th has high tide at a sensible time of the day!

Now... can anyone predict the weather that far ahead? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Happy Birthday Will, you curmudgeonly git!!

Not advisable going into Bradwell, but you can pick up a buoy on the entrance channel, or phone/radio them asking for how much water at the bar.
I cant recall NOT being able to get in, and I draw 1.1m.

But if you look at it logically, if you come over the Ray Sand at 1/2 tide rising, by the time you get to Bradwell, it will be near high tide at your 8 knots.

Why not? Is is just because of the entrance restrictions?

We draw about 1m.

Isn't 1/2 tide rising a little early (I think we went through this on another thread). I would have thought no earlier than an hour before high tide?

It's only about 10mn from ray sands to bradwell, so about an hour and a half at 8knots.

Coming out after the Bradwell Curry Meeting on low water (about 1m rise according to Benfield) we had the keel and the rudder right up (300mm draught) and still bumped our way out though the moorings outside the marina.
Maybe we missed the channel?
Not very clear where it is in the moorings.

Yep, its the entry restrictions.

Re the Ray: Do the math on the tides. I get over just north of the buoyed position and then head 000M until you see it rise again. Your chart plotter wont be accurate....
I do it at about 3 knots.....

If you only draw 1m then access will be nearer 5 hours either side of HW except at springs when it will be 4 - 4.5 hours.

I will shortly be publishing a more comprehensive can I or can't I guide to Bradwell creek following soundings taken today /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

ok "pay attention, here comes the science bit...."

From the charts, highest drying height is 1.4m across that bit of the sands.

Low tide is 0.9m to High tide at 12:25 is 4.8m which leaves a min depth of 3.4m and a tidal range on the rise of 3.9m.

3.9m into 1/12 is 0.325m

1 hour before HW will be 3.4m - 0.325m = 3.075m water depth (or 2.075m under the keel)

2 hours before HW will be 3.4m - 0.975m = 2.425m water depth (or 1.425m under the keel)

3 hours before HW will be 3.4m - 1.95m = 1.45m water depth (or 0.45m under the keel)

4 hours before HW will be 3.4m - 2.925m = 0.475m water depth (or rocks under the keel)

Do those figures look correct?

So, you you are correct I should be able to make it through at 3 hours before HW, but with only 0.45m under the keel I will probably go over at 2 hours (just in case some friend of humanity has thrown a shopping trolley overboard at that point).

I believe the shallow bit is approx 0.5mn across so shouldn't take long to get across.
