Hi, all. Looking for some advice or prior experiences, please:
I have a Series One seal on my boat, and it seems to work well.
I'm planning to pull the prop shaft (if I can get the durn thing off in the first place)
and so will need to draw it through the seal, then re-assemble afterwards.
I did not fit the seal, and don't have the red plastic thingummy that appears in all the product photos. I assume it's supplied for assembly but not sure how critical it is.

Has anyone done what I am planning? Any hints/caveats?

Any advice or comments much appreciated.

Martin.

It has been some years since I fitted my Tides Marine Series One, so I can only go by my memory. I think the red hat is to keep the seal centered on the shaft to ensure a perfect alignment of the seal surfaces.

A quick Google turned up this document. https://www.tidesmarine.com/pdf/SureSeal/sureseal_install.pdf In Section 11 "Retain hat for future use or contact Tides for replacements. " I suggest you contact Tides Marine for advice, http://www.shaft-seals.co.uk/

Well, gosh.
Thanks, Concerto. I did look at their website, and even downloaded what I thought was the install instructions, but turned out to be just a datasheet.
I should have kept looking.
I did contact them via their website but got no callback, so I will press ahead and contact them by phone.
Looks like I need the latest Redhat update!

Thanks for your help,

Martin.
