/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Been helping a friend remove the shafts from his Birchwood 37 (1984/5),…. mission accomplished. Now the cutlass bearings need to come out, the ones in the "A" brackets are easy, undo 2 grub screws and pull!!! The ones in the through hull section?????? How the ‘ing hell do these come out, there are on grub screws by the looks of things….. are they held in or just pressed into place. Before we start to pull and damage the fibreglass can someone advise on how the through hull cutlass is held in place?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks all.

If there are GRP tubes bonded in with GRP its good practise to remove grub screws before the tube is bonded in with GRP and re-drill them and refit them once fitting and bonding is complete so they can be removed for cutlass replacement.

I have seen people GRP in tube over the grub srews but don't know what types of tubes Birchwood fit and if this might be the case.

Good Luck

For what it's worth I was chatting to the yard manager at our marina and he said that he had never know the 'hull' cutlass bearings need replacing. We were talking about our Broom Ocean 37 so I don't know if it was a general coment or specific to our type of boat.
