I am intending to get a canvas cover made to cover the instruments/throttle area of the boat when it is laid up. it would be a lot simpler to make if it didn't have to have a shaped pocket sawn in to go around the throttle handles. Is leaving the throttle handle pushed fully forward (so out of thee way of the cover) going to cause any potential problems on a Betta 35 engine

I can't imagine why it should matter on what's an 'inert metal lump' once it's stopped! However, if you've concerns could you not just disconnect the throttle from the engine?

Jamie N's right of course. But if you really want, with most systems its quite easy to reposition the throttle handle or remove it altogether. Look for a grub screw on the base of the handle holding it, which will probably need an allen key to loosen. Then pull or gently prise off the handle, and reposition.

If you reposition, check that the handle does not foul the steering wheel or anything else when moved to full extent. Otherwise, the only downside is that visitors will expect the handle to be in the orthodox upright position when in idle, they just need to be warned.

Removing the throttle for a custom cover that has still to be made is a silly idea. Make the cover to fit, it can’t be that more complex.
