Has anybody any idea what this will do to the port chosen, as they are all very much recreational ports, the use of these ports for wind farm construction will most likely ruin them for the recreational user, if the effect they have had on Barrow in Furness what was our only local anchorage in the Morecambe Bay Area is anything to go on, certainly it will provide work and bring money to the area but for those who are effected by their fast boats coming and going creating a huge wash. It is only a matter of time before somebody gets drowned when moored off Piel Island in the Barrow channel.

Similar concerns East Coast Scotland as Harbour trusts and wind farm builders seem to be getting to know each other.

I liked the wind farm boats in Wells

they are very courteous - unlike the fishermen, always slow down and they add life and variety to the port

I think it is good to see them in brightlingsea too

once the windfarm has been built then it will down to just the odd maintenance vessel

so my impression is that they will not impact your life too badly

If this is the recent news short listing Poole , Yarmouth and Portland as the options , it seems a one horse race to me ?

Yarmouth , ship everything on a ferry to an island with **** road links etc ?

Poole , shore side development land mega bucks , blue flag beaches ?

Portland , industrial harbour , all the rd links from the olympics still in place?

Hmmmmm i wonder who they will choose ?

Plus Portland has access under almost all conditions, whilst wouldn't like to take a floating platform in/out of Poole if the conditions deteriorate. They need to get in/out quickly, particularly when wind gets 4/5 & higher.

At Yarmouth, they wouldn't get anything sizeable in at all.

Ata piel, the real concern is the idiots on jet skis and speedboats going through the moorings at speed. The wind farm boats always slow down although admittedly they create a wash at even slow speeds but its not a dangerous one, its just enough to wake the kids at 0600 and spoil the chance of a lie in!

Hi were you at Piel yesterday, it was amazing to see one of the yellow wind farm boats stuck on Seldom seen how slowly the other boats passed by to prevent him bouncing on the bottom, if you have been there i cannot emagine where you moor as there are times at low water when shallow draught boats crash on the bottom as to slowing down yes the do but only when they get to the moorings by then there wash is on its way. Yesterday there was a couple of gentleman with speed boats making a load of noise by the pub jetty then they set off flat out through the moorings, there are often children there playing in dingies etc even swimming in the area its a shame that two people can spoil the fun so many, it was a great day yesterday so many yachts and people having fun great to see the place up and running so well again.Mike

What'll happen is that any commercial craft already operating out of the harbour will find themselves forced out by skyrocketing prices. Certainly on the east coast Ramsgate and Great Yarmouth have astronomical mooring fees for commercial vessels which the windfarms are happy to pay because the government picks up the tab.
