I decided to buy a Volvo three blade folding prop. thanks for the advice you guys gave me. I couldn't afford the the Brunton.
What has suprised me is the weight of the kit compared to the ali prop I have taken off.
The old ali prop weighs 2.2kg total inc hub, the new 3 blade folding prop and hub is weighing 8kg. I know the new prop I have bought is designed for the sail drive but does anyone have any experience of using this particular prop on a sail drive and if there are any consequences with the change in weight?

Regards.

Peter.

I was worried about the weight of my Brunton which is about the same as your folder. Used it for 4 years with no problems at all, guess the bearings on the sail drive are more than capable of coping with this which after all when running should spread its wear evenly around 360 degrees of the bearing and seal.

I have the Volvo folding prop on my Warrior 40 and it's great. I have no hesitation in recommending it. Go for it, you will notice the difference when sailing and will be hard put to detect any motoring change. Perhaps a very, very slight delay when selecting reverse gear but you soon get used to that and make appropriate allowance.

I have a volvo 3 blader folding and have found it to be excellent. Like you, I was surprised at the weight difference - but it certainly feels solid.

I make sure to leave a delay when selecting reverse, as I think it would be quite easy to strip a gear otherwise.

And I have found that the anodes on the prop disappear very quickly. They won't last a season on the south coast.
