Good morning.
I own a volvo penta MD 2030B motor. I was searching in the web and forum and have found that the subject was treated, some specify M4, others M5 but I couldnt find the definitive thread dimensions for this engine.
I would very much appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance.

M4, by caliper.

Then this...

'Nurled head.

You're bound to drop one or two, if changing impeller at sea. I do.... and my bilge is over 4 feet deep i.e. longer than my arms. Oh, and they're non-magnetic, too. Ask me how I found out....

Good tip. A shoulder on the thumb screw might make it easier to grip.

Thank you Tranona for your rapid answer.
I think we share the same Volvo 2030 model.

Thank yo Zoidberg for your precision

I fitted M4 studs in the the tapped holes in the pump body then used wing nuts to tighten the cover plate on . This makes it easier to locate the gasket and cover plate and then fit the wing nuts as you can fit the gasket/cover plate and wing nuts on handed

I did have one for many years, but now have a new boat with a D1 30 - same water pump.

You might like to consider fitting a Speedseal cover to the pump www.speedseal.comI am just about to do this with my new engine. Makes changing the impeller much easier and there are only 4 screws but you only have to remove 2 plus the heads are knurled.

I thank you for your fundamented valuable arguments for fitting a speedseal.
I was thinking about this during the last year.
Next time when one of my children will travel to Miami I will ask them to bring me a speedseal.
I agree with you and other friends of YBW about the problems of dropping one of the tiny screws if you need to change the impeller during navegation.
Just a question Mr Tranona.
What is your opinion about the water and humidity sensivity of the electronics of your new D series Volvo engine in comparison to the behavior of the mechanical devices of the old 2030?

Don't really have view. There is no option and so far I have had no problems. The engine has now been in production since 2006 and have not heard of any sytemic problems. It is only the controls that are electronic. The actual engine is still mechanical and I believe will start and run provided you can get battery power to the starter. There is a manual shutdown lever on the fuel pump.
