I'm off on hols this weekend, bound for Padstow. Because the lock in Swansea doesn't open til 7am, I'm going to have to spend tomorrow night at anchor somewhere so that I can get an early start on Sat morning to get to Padstow for 16:00 HW. With the WNW - NW winds forecast, I'm thinking of Lundy or Pwlldu. I've never been to Lundy before, and am concerned that there will be adequate shelter. Ilfracombe is going to be a poor option - I have a fin keeler and don't really want to dry out along the wall.

Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

Lundy should be fine in a WNW or NW. We've been moored there in F3 easterlies and northerlies and it's been OK. There are quite a few mooring buoys around which might make things easier.

Thanks very much both of you. Plan is to leave Swansea late this afternoon, and head for Lundy. I'll then set off from Lundy tomorrow morning just before LW - should give me plenty of time to get down to Padstow for HW. I thought it would be quite good shelter there, but not having actually been myself, I wasn't sure, so your experience is really appreciated.

I'm assuming that if I go out of the out of the bay round Rat Island at reasonably slack water, the races and overfalls will not be a problem...
